The Art of Menstruation at the Museum of
Menstruation and Women's Health

"FOUR CHOCOLATE EATING DAYS PER MONTH"
30"X 40" CIBACHROME PRINTS WITH BLACK
PLASTIC LETTERING
Artist Sarah McCutcheon
writes,
This piece is about one of my
own personal relationships, one
that occurs four days each month
when my body demands chocolate.
It is a menstrual craving when
my hormones lose control, I have
to have chocolate, I would kill
for it! The rest of the 21 days
of the month remain for the most
part chocolate free, I can only
eat one or two chunks before
feeling sick, but, as that 'Time
of the month' approaches, I can
eat pounds of the stuff and
never feel in the slightest bit
queasy. People who are close to
me ensure that there is
chocolate close to hand at this
particular time.
The images in this piece of
work reflect two cycles: one is
that of the chocolate bar itself
and its speedy demise, and the
other reflecting the menstrual
cycle:
1. The Need 2. The cause 3.
The Irrationality 4. The Sanity
