THE MUSEUM OF MENSTRUATION AND WOMEN'S HEALTH
Sally and Mary and Kate Wondered . . .
Puberty and menstruation booklet, Modess. 1956, U.S.A.
|
Below: Pp. 5-6. On page 6 the book suggests
asking your mother if you have further questions about menstruation. HA!
Many women museum visitors (when it was in my house) told me their mothers
wanted to avoid talking about the subject. One college student said her
physician mother somehow detected that she had started her first period.
She handed her a box of pads and said, "Here, use these." End
of discussion - actually, no discussion. But another college student
said her mother found her on her bed trying to insert a tampon for the first
time. Her mother said, "Let me show you how," and put it in for
her. The student said it was one of the wonderful moments of her life. Oh,
the stories.
