Instructions for the disposal of Kotex menstrual
pads, 1920s, in Spanish
In the Wallace Meyer collection of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin
one can see this booklet from the 1920s in Spanish describing Kotex. Women
disposed of Kotex by taking it apart and flushing the parts down the toilet.
The company changed its directions later because of the problems with stopped-up
toilets (see the report from Dr. Lillian Gilbreth
in 1927). Other companies have introduced pads supposedly capable of being
flushed - links below and at left - but many
don't seem to survive the test of plumbing.
