Tux menstrual tampon (U.S.A., 1930s)
Tampons

First page of Tux. See Dale and fax tampons, both from about this time. Directory of all tampons on this site.
Procter & Gamble kindly donated the box and contents as part of a gift of scores of menstrual products. A genealogy researcher generously donated the and many similar ones from early newspapers.

Opening these boxes is like opening King Tux's, Tut's, tomb: exciting because you never know what you'll find. In this case the tomb has been pillaged of its instructions. Actually, it looks like a Cold War missile silo.

What looks like shrink wrapping encases each odd looking tampon, which has no applicator, typical of Thirties tampons when Tampax owned the patent on applicators.

Free at last! The squarish (see below) plug - the business end - measures 0.75" (2.2 cm) from one side of the "square" to the other and 2.625" (6.5 cm) long. The slightly uneven strings stretch about 4.87" (12.4 cm) and have no knot.

Above: the split shows where the ends of the folded material (below) meet.

I opened the end and found two different materials.
