Personal Hygiene for Women
Physiology & hygiene of menstruation booklet, 1928, complete,
Kotex
This might be one of the first booklets Kotex produced and was contemporaneous
with the Marjorie May series for girls just starting
their periods.
It carefully shows how to cut up and flush a
pad down the toilet. Do you carry scissors with you when you're menstruating?
I wonder how many did then. Maybe that's a sign of how many women still
stayed at home since Kotex often advertised to the upper
reaches of society. It had to since it was expensive.
See the contemporary Kotex booklet for girls Marjorie
May's Twelfth Birthday (almost complete booklet,
1928, Kotex, Australia) and the complete booklet,
1935, Canada; cover, mid-1930s, U.S.A.; and the
complete Marjorie May booklet, 1938, U.S.A.
I thank again the retired-teacher contributor of many items and much
information to this museum!

Below: The booklet measures 3.5 x 6.25"
(8.9 x 15.7 cm).
The back is blank. The medium-weight paper throughout is the same color
as the cover, a light blue, maybe faded and not the famous Kotex
blue. All text and illustrations are black.
