1927: Gilbreth report to Johnson & Johnson about pads, Kotex & Modess - Modess newspaper ads 1927-28 - Modess ads: "Silent Purchase" ad, June 1928 - ad, 1928 - ad, April 1929 ("Don't weaken, Mother") - ad, June 1929 ("Never mind, Mother, you'll learn") - ad about concealing pad, 1930 - How Modess Sanitary Napkins Began: excerpts from"A Company That Cares: One Hundred Year Illustrated History of Johnson and Johnson" - See also Growing up and liking it, How shall I tell my daughter? and Lynn Peril's article about the genre.
Tambrands, the former maker of Tampax tampons, kindly donated the leaflet (& more).

Below: See the first page of the 4-page leaflet at far right.
Each page measures about 2 3/4 x 4 1/2" (7 x 11.4 cm).
See a 1967 Meds tampon (same year as this leaflet) & Modess belts.
Below: Reverse side. I once thought "hospital size" meant that they were so large they caused people to think of a hospital
building. Hey, I'm just a guy. They were meant to absorb the heavy vaginal/uterine discharge after childbirth
or a very heavy discharge in a regular period.
