Teacher's Kit for Modess sanitary napkins, menstrual tampons and panties (early 1950s)Starting probably in the late 1940s, companies like Modess, Kotex, Pursettes, Tampax made, and sometimes still make, kits for schools, enabling teachers to use the material to explain menstruation and puberty to American girls - today, sometimes also to boys - and let the captive audience see their products, hoping they will use them for life; they often did. Sometimes the companies also supplied films, such as the famous one from Walt Disney.The kit below came with some teacher-created handouts about glands, and someone added the booklets Your daughter's "first times" . . ., How Shall I Tell My Daughter?, Sally and Mary and Kate Wondered . . ., and Very Personally Yours. The booklets Growing Up and Liking It and It's so much easier when you know formed a part of the kit. By the way, the companies often varied the capitalization of their booklet titles, making it hard to know the correct one. |
