The Margaret Mead Film and Video Festival
in New York to Show Under Wraps
Penny Wheelwright, producer and writer for the great film about menstruation
today (read more here), writes that the Margaret Mead Film and Video Festival
at The American Museum of Natural History in New York City will show it
on these dates: Sunday, November 8th at 3:30
pm; Monday, November 9th at 7:30 pm and Wednesday,
November 11th at 9:00 pm.
The Canadian all-women Starry Night Productions made Under Wraps and
it appeared several times on Canadian television. This museum makes up a
small section.

Why do women who work or live together get their period at the same
time? A lot of people are waiting on your response!

The short answer is pheromones, odorless
chemicals secreted by the body which can affect other people. Menstruating
women secrete certain ones which are somehow perceived by women they have
frequent close contact with. They then tend to cycle closer together.
Prof. Martha McClintock (picture) of the University of Chicago recently published a paper about this,
and she originally wrote up the scientific
observation of synchrony.

Jane Newman, Clinical Research Coordinator at Brigham
and Women's Hospital, Harvard University School of Medicine, asked
me to tell you that
Irregular menses identify women at high risk for polycystic ovary syndrome
(PCOS), which exists in 6-10% of women of
reproductive age. PCOS is a major cause of infertility
and is linked to diabetes.
