MUSEUM OF MENSTRUATION AND WOMEN'S HEALTH

I wish my Daughter would - I wish my Mother would
(May 1941, Woman's Home Companion, U.S.A.)
Advice
ad for Kotex menstrual napkins (pads, but Kotex also made tampons,
belts, panties & napkin deodorant powder)
solving mother-daughter problems right
before America's entrance into World War II

This and the following two ads belong to the long, beautifully designed Kotex series that Irving Nurick drew for the often charming and witty text. Included in the series of course are the wonderful Are you in the know? ads that ran for decades, roughly contemporary with the long-running very different series for Moddess menstrual pads and tampons, the elegant Modess . . . . because ads.

Companies that won teenagers' hearts often had them for life, which the cigarette companies knew.

Giant pages held these Kotex ads, pages the oil crisis of the 1970s reduced to the size we see today. 'Tis a shame because designers could pop your eyes out.

Read the booklet mentioned after the red PS at bottom, the contemporary "As One Girl to Another."

Below: The page measures 13.5" (34.3 cm) high; because part of the left margin was missing I couldn't measure the width. Unlike the two following ads, red is the second color, not the famous Kotex blue. But the red makes a point.
